Google Forms: Teacher Teacher, I need you!

Since summer has started, I have a new obsession I MUST tell you about!

Google Forms

I had never used these before. I have filled out several, but never made my own! Right!? I know, I've been living under a rock...
Well, Pinterest (and the fact that we are going 1:1 next year) finally convinced me to try it out. The first one I made came from my friend Amber at {Peppy Zesty Teacherista}. Then I was hooked! I wanted to make more and more! One I am extra proud of is...
This little guy is going to save me and my students so much hassle. Kids know they are not supposed to talk to me when my princess light is on..but they really want to. Sometimes when there is something you really need to say, you HAVE to say it before you can focus on anything else. I've been there, I like to talk. Now when a kiddo needs to tell something (that isn't bleeding, breathing, or barfing), they can scan the {QR code}(the one in my classroom has a QR code right under the little guy's arm!) and it will take them to a Google Form!

Here they will have to tell their name, and what they want to tell me. I also think I'm going to add an option where they can tell me if we need to talk about or if it was just so I knew about it.
These forms are SO easy to change and update. I'm so excited about these!!
I made a super quick video showing you the basics of setting something like this up!
How would you use Google Forms in your classroom?
Next time, I 'll HAVE to tell you what I've got going on Google Forms for progress monitoring!

Getting Engaged in Fluency

I created a recording studio for my kiddos to work on fluency! They are so engaged and loving it!  I needed something to block the noise from the room, so I taped together two of my privacy shields from {Really Good Stuff}. You could also use two of those tri-fold boards from Walmart. I had an extra desk in the room, so I raised it as tall as it could go.
Sorry for the glare!
The app we use is {Voice Recording}, a free app! It is easy to use and easy to save/upload files too!
When a student gets to record, they have to type in the book title and their name to save the file.

This saves it to the iPad, but I discovered linking it to Google Drive was soooo simple! I created a new account so all my saved folders would not show up in the student drive.
When you click "Upload to Cloud" you are given the option to pick where you want it to go. Google Drive is easiest for me, but there were other options as well! When students click the button, after I linked it, they are only given one choice. I love that the app doesn't give them so many options to look through.
Once inside Google Drive, they find the folder that is for our recordings. The recording already has their name and book title from the very first step! This makes saving so so easy!
From here, I am able to download the audio and create a QR code of the book. Students can listen to their friends reading the book. Students can also go back and listen to themselves reading. This can give them a confidence boost when they have improved their reading!

Techy Tuesday- Ebooks and QR codes

Whew! The day is half way over and I JUST now realized it was Tuesday!! I sure do LOVE summer break;)
This week I want to tell you how to make a QR code that links to a safe site where students can watch a YouTube video and have NO ads! It is easy, you'll see!
First you have to pick a book you want to create the QR code for. I am going to choose Olivia by Ian Falconer.
Head over to  and choose type in the book you would like to have students listen to. Find the version you want. Now here comes the not even close to tricky part because it is soooo easy!

Copy the highlight URL at the top of the page. Then you are going to open a new tab and go to the site safeshare.tv.
Paste the URL you copied into the Safeshare.tv box to create your safe link. Then BAM!

You are ready to go to the safe view. What you see there is exactly what the kids will see. You are going to copy the URL again at the top of the safe view.
You can then go to QRstuff.com and create your QR code from that link! Easy-Peasy!

If you aren't sure how to use QRstuff.com, don't worry! A few techy Tuesdays ago, I made a post about it! Check it out!

Creating QR Codes for your Classroom

We all LOVE QR codes! I stick them on everything I can. I use them for students to access stories online, for students to check answers on task cards, and for tic-tack-toe word work. They are literally everywhere!  The site I use to make my QR codes is {QR Stuff}.

They have a huge variety of QR codes you can create. You can link them to sites, videos, dropbox, and a lot more. The codes are sooo easy to make! There are four steps.
Step 1:  The first step is to choose what type of QR code you want to make.  There are SO many options. I love using "Plain Text" to just tell students something they need to know.
Step 2:
This is where you add the content that the QR code will link to.
<----Plain Text <-----Website
These two are my most popular ones. You are able to link to images and PDF's, but that requires the paid subscription. I generally use Google Classroom for things like that though.
Step 3:
This step is one I usually skip, mostly because I am printing on colored paper or in black and white anyway, there is no reason to color it.
Step 4:
Click "Download" and you are done! Your QR code will be in your downloads folder ready for you to use!

Making QR Codes for your classroom is so simple! Give it a try, and increase your student engagement in a flash!

QR Codes

Super Bowl Sunday!

Who are you rooting for?

In our classrooms, our students love QR Codes. QR Codes are those square pictures that sometimes look like a maze, that are everywhere, that you can use your smart phone or device to scan. It usually takes you to the product website.

Using them keeps our students engaged and active. They can use these during Daily 5 time and during math.
The first activity I use is with Tic Tac Toe. Each week students have to do three in a row for Daily 5 time. Students can use an IPod/IPad to scan the QR code.

-Write Spelling words 5 times each.
-Rainbow Write each spelling word.-Use a dry erase board to “order” your spelling words.
