Back 2 School- Behavior Management

This week I am linking up with Mrs. D's Corner and Miss V's Busy Bees for their back to school weekly linky! This week's topic is behavior management. I'm still a newbie on managing more than 20 students at a time. I like to joke that my behavior management stops there.(I have 25 this year so let's hope I can get it together!) Here are some of my tips on managing my classroom.
Whether you are using a clip chart, Class Dojo, coupons, or if you are like me, all three students need a visual. A display of some sort needs to be easily seen inside the classroom. Find out how I use them by clicking my clip chart!
I think seating can make or break your behavior plan. If you place the best, sweetest, quietest girl by her BFF, they WILL talk. Students are social, we just want them to be social at appropriate times! I use Happy Class App to help me in making my seating plan! It is a free program online and is awesome! You can pick which students should never be together, which should be close, which need to be near the front, or back, and if they just need to stay put! For more details, click the Happy Class App button!

This is my favorite(I am so sorry I have been sending you back to old blog posts! I have talked about my behavior management plans alot:) and the kids favorite behavior management tool! There is an app called Too Noisy. It has a free version, but you will want to pay the $2.99 for the full app! It is totally worth it! In the Pro version, when the students get too loud, it makes a horrible, awful, scary noise! (Which can be changed or you can even record your own.) Not only does the screen get black, the " weather" in the app changes and it looks like it is raining! When the alarm sounds, it also "cracks" the screen.
It keeps track of students quietness (not making it go off) and gives them stars for not making it go off for 8 minutes in a row. The minutes can be changed to whatever you want your class to be. I use it to switch my groups too because it makes a fun noise when the students earn a star! When they get ten stars, it is a BIG deal! It does this ceremony thing that the kids love to watch! In conjunction with the app, when they get to ten stars we add a piece to our potato head. When all the pieces are on, we have a party! If you want more details( I know, another link back..)Click the app below!

Summer Stock Up: Behavior Management

Do you Dojo? If you haven't already, you should check out Class Dojo! It is an awesome online behavior management system that is fun for students and effective for teachers. To learn more about the basics of Class Dojo, click the monsters below!

There have been some new updates to the Dojo since my first post about it. The updates are AMAZING!! First, Class Dojo now lets you rate how many points a positive or negative is worth. This is super awesome because we all know bullying is a much more severe action than talking in class. Now with one click, can take up to five points away from students when they are bullying.  I also have changed my talking in class, disrespect, and talking out of turn to more than one negative point. The ones with out the exponent are just one point off.
Along with adjusting the negatives, you can also increase the number of points students receive for positive points!
Last year I loved using Class Dojo, but I often forgot because it was not a constant visual. This year I am adding a behavior chart to work with Class Dojo. While searching on Pinterest (How did teachers do it before Pinterest!?!) I found this awesome behavior tracker from Chasity Gabrielson. It is also a freebie in her Teachers Pay Teachers store!
Click here to head over to TPT and get this awesome freebie!
The tracker is a month long, and uses the most popular behavior chart colors! Students can get points when they move their name up (or flip flop that) and lose points when they move their name down. Here is the chart I have for my room!

Class Dojo

{Class Dojo} has TRANSFORMED my parent communication! It is also an amazing behavior incentive. Class Dojo is available as an App(iPhone and iPad) and online. Once you put all your students' names in, they each get a personal username and password, so do the parents! Class Dojo uses little monster avatars. With these names and passwords, they can personalize their avatar. The kids love it!

Class Dojo has students earn points for positive behaviors and lose points for negative behaviors throughout the day. The teacher can customize these behaviors.
The teacher also has the choice of how many points each behavior can be worth, up to five points! This goes the same for negative behavior. Bullying is worth losing more points than talking out of turn.

When a teacher wants to recognize a positive or negative behavior, they can click the students name and check the behavior. Positive behaviors make a ding noise and the negative behaviors get a low oops sound. The student name pops up at the bottom to show what the noise was for.  I keep Class Dojo up on my Promethean Board, as well as my Ipad and cell phone. The students add and take away their points themselves in my room.

Students get rewarded based on how many points they have. We have ours get a reward for every ten points.  I also set a whole class goal of 500. When we reach the goal, the students get a theme party, like popcorn and a movie.

I have coupons for students to "cash" in when they earn one. They are able to save the coupon and use it when they want to!
10- Bring money for a snack from the snack machine.
20- Use a pen or marker instead of a pencil
30- Bring a stuffed animal to school
40- Wear a hat in school
50- Read a book to another class
60- Choose a student to sit by at lunch
70- Bring something for show and tell
80- Get an recess
90- Fifteen minutes of free iPad time to play any app they want
100- Switch second grade rooms for Daily 5 time

I also let students switch out coupons for a lower reward. Many of the girls don't care about wearing a hat at school. They would rather bring a stuffed animal again! No problem! As long as it is a reward they have previously earned, I let them switch. {Click here} for a free sample of coupons! The full (cuter) set is available in my {store}!
