Five for Friday!

WOO HOO it's Friday! You know what that means! I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to give you my Five for Friday!

We did our first science experiment today! The kids were so excited to do science. I made a flip chart that walked through the scientific method, and we watched a BrainPop video. Our first experiment was mixing dish soap and milk. The best part was my explanation. I use a rubber band and scissors. I had two kids who were really pushing my patience today be my assistants to hold the rubber bands. They loved to help and I loved cutting the rubber band;)

This group has already learned the way to my heart! Flowers and Glitter!! I don't know why Miss S decided to glitter up her homework, but I sure did enjoy it! Another girl brought me a flower! How sweet are they!


Dontcha just love when kids try to stretch some words out? It just cracks me up!! I hope the parents get a kick out of it too. 


 I was looking around in my closet and found a couple of dead mice! 
HAHAHA! I crack me up sometimes!
Our house is being built on total sand. Makes me nervous big time, but it shouldn't be a big problem. After it rains, the sand rolls up! How crazy is that!? I have NEVER seen sand do this. I pick it up and it reminds me of a terra cotta pot. I love it!

September Currently

I'm linking up with Farley from {Oh' Boy 4th Grade} to bring you my September Currently!
Listening: I had to find a new series on Netflix after I finished Scrubs(for the third time). Parenthood just happened to pop up with new episodes, so why not? I was a little worried at first, being the HUGE Gilmore Girls fan that I am, but I am really liking it so far!

Loving: I love that I am getting work done today so I can have the free time to do what I want later this week! It will totally be worth spending my Labor Day working on homework!

Thinking: Our neighbors and good friends got married this weekend. The wedding was on some family property and it was BEAUTIFUL! We had quite a bit of rain during their set up, so we didn't know how it would actually go, but everything was perfect. It was such a great time! 

Wanting: I REEEEAAAALLLLYYYYY want my house finished so I can move in! They haven't done anything for about a week because of expected rain, which didn't happen. I hope they get some floors poured this week though! I really really really hope!

Needing: I need to get my plans done for this week! I am such a slacker when it comes to lesson plans.. I know what I want to do, but I don't take the time to write it down. It usually changes anyway.. This week being short, is going to be a total review week. I can't wait to get some more fun activities worked in for the kiddos!

3 Trips: I want to go to Rome because I LOVE Italy. St. Lucia because this was our second honeymoon choice, Venice and Florence being the winners. I love the beach and beach bum life. The third place I want to go is New York. I want to go to pizza places where people talk funny, eat hot dogs from the people on the street, and shop! I can't wait for a trip to Central Park and to not ever go there at night! (Thanks for the tip Law and Order SVU!)

Dyed Clothespins

I tried out dying clothes pins and I just loved how they turned out! I used food coloring instead of the dye. Food coloring made the clothespins a little dull instead of a bright color.

Here is how I did it!
Step 1:  The first thing I did was get food coloring, vinegar, and plastic cups. I filled the cups with half vinegar and half water. The cup needs to be about half full or less. If it is too full, the clothespins will cause it to overflow! (Trust me..) It is about the same way you would make dye for Easter eggs.  Then I put about 20 drops of color in each cup. The yellow ones didn't turn out because they just looked like dirty regular colored clothespins. Adding some red may help, but I haven't tried it that way.
Step 2: Put the clothes pins in. I split them up by putting one in each cup until I was out of clothes pins. Then I filled four more red cups with some water to stick on top. The clothespins float, so I needed a way to keep them down. I let them soak this way for a full day. 
Step 3:When I took them out, I clipped them to a 12 pack box to keep them up right to dry. I let them dry for a full day before I took them to school. That picture is at the top!

When I took them to school, I had my high school helper hot glue thumb tacks to the clothespins. I use them on my math board so I can easily switch out math vocabulary and strategies!
